From Breakthrough to BBQ

Growing up surrounded by entrepreneurs, the path of self-employment always resonated deeply. It's more than just an "American dream" to me; it's about the entire journey. With two decades dedicated to the culinary and service industries, I've learned that the journey truly defines us.

"My first ten years unfolded as planned: I ascended through various kitchen positions, from a humble dishwasher to a head chef." I felt like a rock star and a star athlete combined, living my culinary dream. However, like many stories of rock stars and athletes, my path took an unexpected turn. In 2016, I found myself at rock bottom, leading me to the Los Angeles Dream Center – a place that offers addiction recovery programs and life transformation guidance.

The Dream Center catalyzed my personal transformation—a genuine "Durchbruch" or breakthrough. It was there that innovative ideas and a refined sense of self emerged, igniting my passion to guide others toward their own success. With the dedicated staff's guidance and renewed faith, my life wasn't just saved; it was reignited. I rediscovered the profound joy of human connection and embraced life with renewed vigor.

It was at the Dream Center that I met my wife. Together, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we led teams providing nearly 5 million meals to communities in need. This experience underscored the vital importance of service, human connection, and finding happiness even amidst hardship.

In 2022, a calling led us to Kansas City, igniting my passion for authentic, slow-smoked BBQ. When I commit to something, I give it my all. Now, as the founder and pitmaster of Durshbrook BBQ & Co., I pour my heart and soul into every dish, infusing it with the love and care nurtured throughout my journey. We specialize in handcrafted BBQ sauces, tender smoked meats, and unique BBQ recipes.
